CKT Nelson Racing League
Welcome to the CKT Racing League, where karting enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels come together to experience the thrill of competitive racing in a supportive community. We cater to drivers ranging from novices to seasoned racers, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the excitement of kart racing.
Event Venue
All our championship rounds are hosted exclusively at Pro Karts in Nelson. Located at Tahunanui Beach Fun Park, Back Beach Road (off Hounsell Circle), Tahunanui Beach, Nelson, Pro Karts offers one of New Zealand’s premier outdoor karting tracks, providing an exhilarating racing environment for all participants.
Participation Options
We offer flexible participation to accommodate various preferences:
• Individual Racers: Join solo and compete in both individual and team events. If you don’t have a teammate for the endurance race, we’ll pair you with another participant.
• Groups of Friends: Register with one or more mates and enjoy racing together. You can team up with your selected person for the endurance race.
• Parent and Child Teams: Experience the thrill of racing as a family by joining as a parent-child duo. To encourage family participation, we offer a special discount of $2.50 off per person for parent and child pairs using the discount code CKTFAM during registration. You can also team up in the endurance race with your selected person.
Event Structure
Each event is designed to provide a comprehensive racing experience:
• Solo Race: Drivers participate in a 25-lap race within their respective divisions, competing against others of similar skill levels.
• Team Endurance Race: Following the solo race, drivers team up with a family member, friend, or an assigned teammate for a 120-lap endurance race. This segment emphasizes teamwork and strategy, contributing to the team’s championship points.
Equipment and Safety
We prioritise safety and performance:
• Karts: Our fleet consists of high-performance karts, meticulously tuned for league racing and set to higher speed limits than standard public models.
• Gear: While racing suits are not required, we provide helmets and essential race gear to ensure driver safety.
Points System
Our points system is designed to reward skill, punctuality, and sportsmanship:
• Penalties: Unsportsmanlike behavior, such as deliberate collisions or aggressive driving, results in a deduction of one or two points from the driver’s evening total, depending on the severity of the offense. These penalties can impact final standings for the event.
• Bonus Points:
• Early Registration: Drivers who register online by 1 PM on the Thursday before the event receive a bonus point, encouraging timely commitment.
• Fastest Lap: The competitor with the fastest lap in each division earns a bonus point, promoting competitive performance.
• Clean Racing: Drivers who complete races without incurring any penalties are awarded bonus points, fostering a culture of fair play.

Championship Standings
Participants compete for both individual and team championships:
• Individual Points: Accumulated based on solo race performance, adjusted for any penalties or bonuses.
• Team Points: Earned during the endurance race, contributing to the overall team’s championship standings.
Race Schedule
Our events are held on Friday evenings, approximately once every 3-4 weeks. This schedule allows drivers ample time to prepare and ensures a regular cadence of racing throughout the season. Specific dates are announced in advance, providing participants with all necessary information to plan accordingly.
Post-Race Ceremony
Each event concludes with an official ceremony where we recognize outstanding performances, sportsmanship, and milestones achieved during the races. We encourage all participants and their supporters to stay until the end to celebrate these accomplishments and share in the community spirit that defines the CKT Racing League.
Skill Development and Advancement Opportunities
Participating in the CKT Racing League offers drivers the chance to hone their kart racing skills. As you gain experience and confidence, you may consider competing in larger events, such as the IORK New Zealand Rental Kart Championships. This annual event brings together karting enthusiasts from across the country, offering a platform to showcase your abilities on a national stage.
